TEAM BUILDING

What is Team Building?

Team building is a high-energy, interactive process that brings team members together to learn more about each other, explore ways to become more effective as a team, and have fun. This process energizes team members and typically results in greater levels of trust and cohesiveness. The process also helps team members understand and better leverage strengths and identify ways to address areas for improvement.

How does it work?

HRCatalyst works with the team to understand specific objectives for the team building process. A specific program is built to accomplish those goals. Programs range from half a day to multiple days.

Does my organization need Team Building?

Many companies use team building in the following situations:

  • Improve team member relationships
  • Energize teams
  • Provide meaningful, out-of-the office experiences
  • Reward teams

In addition, many companies use team building when faced with:

  • Newly formed teams
  • Teams in transition
  • Teams experiencing decreased productivity and involvement
  • Confusion about assignments and roles
  • Lack of innovation and creativity
  • Difficult problem solving
  • Ineffective meetings and/or low participation

What are the benefits of Team Building?

  • Energizes the team
  • Boosts levels of trust and morale
  • Builds greater understanding and appreciation of individuals’ styles and preferences
  • Provides a common understanding of the team’s strengths and weaknesses
  • Helps diverse groups work better together
  • Creates a more collaborative climate
  • Helps team resolve conflict more constructively
  • Improves overall communication and collaboration
  • Creates greater synergies across the team

What are the steps for Team Building?

Although steps depend on the group’s specific needs, the general process includes:

  1. HRCatalyst meets with the appropriate stakeholders to identify goals and design the agenda.
  2. Often, a personality instrument such as Birkman Method®, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI), or FIRO-B® is completed by team members. Data are analyzed and a team profile is constructed.
  3. HRCatalyst delivers the team meeting(s), focusing on areas specified in the customized agenda. Information from the assessments is incorporated for the maximum benefit of the team members.
