TEAM ASSESSMENT

What is Team Assessment?

Team Assessment provides an in-depth evaluation of a team’s ability to succeed in an organization given the relevant success factors, overall strategy, and culture. This assessment is designed to help a team identify the challenges and opportunities it faces as team members work towards objectives. The assessment also helps pinpoint high impact action steps that will help the team become more successful going forward.

How does it work?

HRCatalyst’s team assessment process uses quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate team performance against the following criteria:

  • Awareness of a common purpose
  • Commitment to the purpose and related goals
  • Level of trust and respect trust within the team
  • Team member collaboration
  • Clarity of roles
  • Acceptance of ownership and responsibility of roles
  • Awareness of pitfalls that undermine team effectiveness
  • Understanding and acceptance of team strategy, agreements, and performance measures
  • Synergistic thinking
  • Productive conflict resolution
  • Team member capability
  • Understanding and awareness of one’s impact on other team members
  • Clarity and conciseness of communication.

A personality-based assessment is often conducted in conjuntion with the assessment areas above.

  • Strengthen commitment to a common purpose and related goals
  • Increase clarity and alignment of roles and priorities

  • Increase utilization of team strengths
  • Enhance team communications
  • Advance understanding of individual differences and how to leverage them
  • Improve team credibility

What are the steps for Team Assessment?

HRCatalyst customizes the process to fit the team’s specific needs. General steps include the following:

  1. HRCatalyst works with the team leader to understand context, goals, strengths, and concerns.
  2. HRCatalyst conducts a meeting with the team members to explain the process and kick off the assessment.
  3. HRCatalyst interviews team members and key stakeholders to learn more about the team’s history, strategy, customers, initiatives, strengths, and challenges.
  4. Individual team members complete assessment components.
  5. HRCatalyst compiles and reviews all data to produce a summary of findings and development recommendations for the team.
  6. HRCatalyst and team meet to discuss results of the assessment. This meeting is often preceded by a meeting with HRCatalyst and the team leader only.
  7. Followup meeting is scheduled to review progress.
